Job Description HSE Specialist
Reporting directly to the HSE Lead, the HSE Specialist will be responsible for assisting Malta MRO to improve their performance about occupational safety & health. The candidate t is responsible for carrying out routine occupational safety & health assessments, defining internal work instructions, encourage campaigns to promote a sustainable occupational safety & health performance and developing plans and strategies to stop, control or resolve environmental problems.
Main Tasks / Key activities
- Promote a positive Safety Culture and to ensure that Safety and Quality policy is communicated/promoted and implemented within the organization;
- Ensure that all elements of the SMS are properly implemented, maintained and continuously improved by fulfilling all SMS related duties and responsibilities as defined in SMS Manual;
- Promote safety practices throughout all activities at easyJet Engineering Malta
- Carry out Daily Safety Walk Through together with the Bay Managers, Shift Leaders, Workshop Managers, or their delegate to ensure minimum Safety standards are kept
- Assist the HSE Manager in daily, weekly, or monthly monitoring activities
- Represent the HSE department as deemed required during the monthly Safety Tours
- Carry out monthly firefighting visual inspections and report any noticed defects
- Check & replenish first aid boxes on monthly basis
- Attend the HSE committee meetings, formulate & distribute minutes for the H&S committee meetings
- Compile information required for Toolbox Talks subjects
- Assist in risk assessments and introduces corresponding control measures practices carried out by the workforce.
- Liaise with the relevant departments to ensure that policies, Work Instructions & Risk Assessments are well understood and followed
- Liaise with the indirect procurement to order PPE provisions, manage sourcing them to workforce and maintain PPE records
- Assist the HSE Manager during any accidents, unsafe incidents investigations and company audits
- Liaise with the Training Department in the provision of health & safety related training programmes
- Ensure that the hazardous waste management are correctly disposed and comply to local regulations
- Promote the principle of the "3Rs" for waste management (reduce, reuse, and recycle)
- Ensure that the Chemical List is regularly updated, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) received from Warehouse are uploaded on the easyJet Engineering Malta intranet
- Highlight environmental issues that can cause environmental degradation to soil, water, or air
- Investigate complaints or situations related to the environment and workers health
- Assist the HSE Lead in gathering data during the Environmental Audits
- Engage in any other task commensurate with the role.

- 5S: Manage and keep housekeeping of the assigned working area, office and or desk.
Position Key Requirements and Competencies
- NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a Diploma in Health and Safety or a comparable and recognised qualification,
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience within a similar position
- Sound knowledge of local health and safety legislation
- Ability to work under minimal supervision
- Able to work independently
- Able to work under pressure
- Has strong computer literacy skills and well versed in standard computer applications
- Be a good team player
- Be a good communicator, confident and is able to problem solve
- Good command of verbal and written English.
